 Hi there,
My name’s Tony and I’m in my late forties :-) I got into music from a young age when my parents bought a gramophone (one of those long wooden furniture pieces) and in my teen years in the late sixties and early seventies discovered Disco and soul music. I started my collection around 1974-5 and still have my vinyl to this day. In 1982 I decided to buld my own mobile disco and being an electronics engineer this was not too difficult. Bought the console, decks, built-in amp, speakers and built my lights as well. (All by hand). With this I began ‘The Unique Sound Mobile Disco’ in about 1983-84 and covered such venues as Leyton Orient and West Ham Football clubs as well as the usual Weddings & Birthdays.
My musical influences stemmed from Motown. I also discovered Radio London with Tony Blackburn, Robbie Vincent. Also Capital Radio with Greg Edwards. Also Soul Spectrum and the Lyceum events. Disco’s I attended in the days were Zero 6, Quills, TOTS and Tiffany’s in Harlow. Coming from a Greek family as well I experienced multi-cultural confusion relating to music as well so also have a collection of Greek music ! (Comes in handy on theme nights). :-)
In 2008 I decided to start up my Mobile Disco activities again as I missed it and playing my soul music. Various things lead up to this with the advent of YouTube, Imesh and other music sources on the internet. I found that now in this new millennium things had changed so much technologically so decided to work with an Agency at first to see what it was like as they used Laptops and mp3’s which is now the ‘norm’ I found. Tried this for a few months then decided to set up my own including a dedicated website to this. Having said that, I also operate nine other businesses on the internet from Automotive sales to Mortgages & Finance and a heck of a lot more so making the time for additional commitments is a real challenge.
The rest I’m sure you all know re my involvement with Funk-U-Radio with my own ‘Guest DJ’ show which I look forward to doing every week. Hope you enjoy my shows !
